Part 3 of 3 - July 11: Farm Chemistry (Chemistry)
Join us again this summer for a Nature Explorer series focused on the sciences! Come for one, two, or all three of our sessions designed to explore the overlap between nature and science through games, activities, and trail investigations.
August’s Farm Chemistry program invites students to experience hands-on chemistry in the garden! Use your taste buds to sample different plant-produced compounds like glucose, menthol, carotenoids, and others. Use cabbage to experiment with pH, and concoct (& taste!) your very own farm fizzy using farm fresh ingredients from the Merry Lea Teaching Farm!
Come for one or all three programs! Please register for each part of the series that you will be attending! See additional details for each program below:
June 13: Wetland Wildlife (Biology)
Put on some boots or waders and find out what invertebrates are swimming and living in our wetland. Use microscopes to examine specimens and find out how these critters can be indicators of wetland health. Play a game of “Macroinvertebrate Mayhem” and go on a hike during this “wild”- life themed exploration
July 11: Forces in the Forest (Physics)
How does a Cardinal use leverage? How does a hawk’s talon exert pressure? Explore forces like friction, breaking strength, levers, pushes and pulls. Find out how physics shows up in nature!
August 8: Farm Chemistry (Chemistry)
Use your taste buds to sample different plant-produced compounds like glucose, menthol, carotenoids, and others. Use cabbage to experiment with pH, and concoct (& taste!) your very own farm fizzy using farm fresh ingredients from the Merry Lea Teaching Farm.
